Get to know the Sant Joan Despí water treatment plant

Visit the Sant Joan Despí water treatment plant to find out how drinking water is produced.

This DWTP is the largest in Catalonia and one of the most complete in Europe thanks to its facilities and more than 50 years of experience in treating and distributing drinking water. It currently supplies drinking water to Barcelona and 22 municipalities in its metropolitan area. Approximately 3 million people! By calculation, the plant has to purify approximately 550 million litres of drinking water every day.

An educational team explains and teaches the processes, resulting from science and ingenuity, that make water drinkable: from collection from the Llobregat river, through decantation and ozonisation to the pumping process that delivers water to homes in the city.

The knowledge acquired during the on-site visit can be complemented with a virtual visit to the drinking water treatment plant using augmented reality.
